Christmas Truffles

This is such a simple recipe to make and I love the out come! No actual "baking" is involved - the oven stays off the whole time so this could be a great activity if you have children or if not still great fun for adults! These make a great gift and take no time at all to make, the longest part is the cooling - if you can resist eating the mixture! I have made these truffles for years and usually follow a little Christmas recipe book but I seem to have misplaced it! Even though I couldn't find the recipe book because I have made them so many time I managed to remember the recipe no problem!

Things you will need:

300g of Chocolate - I used Stocbloc but any chocolate would work
1 Egg Yolk
2 Tablespoons of double cream
1 or 2 Tablespoons of any type of liqueur or spirit - I used Cointreau (optional)
Glitter, Cocoa Powder, Dessicated Coconut, Orange Zest, anything you fancy for rolling the truffles in.

First you will need to melt the chocolate in the microwave for 2 minutes, constantly stirring. Once the chocolate is completely melted add the egg yolk, cream and liqueur (if adding) and stir until all ingredients are combined.

This is the boring part! The mixture now needs to be cooled in the fridge for about 2 hours or until solid. At this point go make yourself your favourite hot drink (gingerbread latte for me), put on a Christmas film (Love Actually), put your feet up and relax! - It's Holiday season after all!

Now the fun part! Once the mixture has solidified you need to roll the mixture into balls and then immediately coat your truffles into whatever topping you like, I chose glitter because, well glitter!

If you try out the recipe I'd love to see your truffles! Either leave a comment below or use the hashtag #sophieschristmastruffles on Instagram.

What's In My Make Up Bag?

The contents of my everyday make up bag doesn't change that often. I usually stick to the same basics but change up the blusher/bronzer and my lipstick. A different colour of lipstick can really change any make up look!

My current make up bag is from Victoria's Secret. This was a gift from my parents last Christmas. It's a great size for in your handbag and I love the lace effect pattern. I am thinking about changing it up though; currently I have my eye on this one by Charlotte Tilbury. It is possibly a little big as a make up bag but it's just more of an excuse to buy more make up! Who needs an excuse anyway?!

Right now my make up consists of:

Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder in Vanille - Available Here
NARS Lipgloss in Super Orgasm - Available Here
Real Techniques Blush Brush - Available Here
Bourjois Effect 3D Lipgloss in Rouge Democratic - Available Here
Bourjois Volume Glamour MAX Holidays in Ultra Black - Available Here
Hair Tie - Available Here
Miss Sporty Fabulous Lash in Xtra Black - Available Here
Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush - Available Here
Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Star Dust - Available Here
No7 Stay Perfect Nail Colour in Devils Delight - Available Here
Victoria's Secret Make Up Bag - Similar Available Here

As can see I like to mix up my make up collection between high end and drug store beauty items. My current favourite is the Chanel Star Dust Powder which I have just rediscovered! I bought this in the 2012 from their Christmas Collection - it was so sought after at the time, I found it really difficult to get a hold but it is now part of their staple collection so easy enough to get your hands on it. I always bring this out every year at Christmas it's perfect for adding a bit of shimmer!

I almost always carry at least two different mascaras; this is because I'll usually have one that's good for lengthening and one that gives some extra volume. I am still on the search for the perfect mascara that does both these things, do you have any recommendation? Just like the mascara I will usually have more than one lipstick or lipgloss with me either in my make up bag, bottom of my handbag or in my pocket - I'm constantly topping up if needed. Hair ties and bobby pins are an essential to be kept in my make up bag at ALL times, being caught short without one of these is a nightmare - especially with long hair like mine! Lastly, you'll always find a nail polish in my make up bag. Just now it's a bright red colour in keeping with the season - very festive!

What's inside your make up bag?

It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year

Today has been a wonderfully festive day! First stop was The Nutcracker Christmas Village Shop in Creiff near Perth. This is a Christmas shop that is open all year round which is great for someone like me who is part Elf! Today was my first time I have been and it certainly won't be the last.

When I got inside there was a huge red twinkly Christmas tree that went right to the roof - I would love to have a tree that size, if only I had the space! The shop itself was set out like a German market in little wooden huts. In each hut there was a different theme; red, gold, pink, snowy, nativity scene and nutcrackers. Shockingly my favourite was the pink room even though it's not typically very Christmassy! I had a good look around everything before picking up everything I wanted. I mostly chose baubles for the tree and some The Snowman and The Snow Dog cupcake cases which I can't wait to use - expect a baking post sometime in the near future...

After having a spot of lunch (macaroni cheese if you were wondering) we had a look around the Creiff visitors centre - it was nothing special but nice to have a look around. The weather had now turned really bad - very sleety, so we thought it was best to head back up the road to Aberdeen.

The rain and snow had stopped by the time we were back home so not to end the day short we headed to The Christmas Street Market in the city, which was based on traditional German Christmas markets. The atmosphere was great with lots of lights, Christmas trees and music. There was lots of tasty food too! In my opinion the market stalls were not great, but it was still a lovely evening out and will head back before the festive season is over.

Bourjois PSA

Yesterday I had to make a mad dash into town after work to pick up some more face powder (Bourjois healthy balance) before all the shops closed. Luckily I got there just on time!

I picked up the powder and I noticed there was a great offer on - spend £15 get this gift with the value of £29 for free! The gift set is called "Rouge Glamour" and includes four full size products including: Smoky Stories Quad Eyeshadow in #06 Upside Brown, Volume Glamour Max Mascara in Ultra Black, Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipstick in #Hot Pepper and lastly So Laque Ultra Shine Nail Polish in #24 Rouge Escarpin.

This is a great deal and well worth the money especially if your looking to pick a few essentials.

To take my total up to over £15 I also purchased another sparkly lipgloss (a girl can never have too many glittery lipglosses). This is a beautiful gold shimmer gloss and will be perfect for the festive season.

Bourjois Effect 3D Lipgloss in Top Coat - £7.99
Bourjois Healthy Balance in Vanille - £8.99

Starry Shimmer

I am still trying to get to grips with blogging but I am hoping I can stick at this and it grows into something amazing!

This was a total impulse purchase for me. I hadn't seen any of the Guerlain Christmas collection before the weekend (there isn't a Guerlain counter in Aberdeen much to my disappointment!) So when I was in House of Fraser, Glasgow I knew I was going to spend a good amount of time looking at all the seasonal make up collections.

I love this years Guerlain Christmas collection, so much shimmer and sparkle which I love all year round not just at Christmas!

The Maxi Shine Gloss d'Enfer stood out to me the most out of the whole collection and I knew I had to have it! I love the snowy look and the way the light catches the multi colour glitter.

This is going to be a great addition to my make up bag and can't wait to wear this over a berry coloured lipstick for that added wintry look. This would also look great on its own for a simple look.

I am still to test this on an evening out but plan on wearing it tomorrow at a ceilidh. I'll let you know how I get on.

Guerlain Maxi Shine Gloss in D'Enfer Intense - £23
